These refer here to modalities dealing more specifically with the human Energy Field. Among innumerable energy therapies currently practiced, Therapeutic Touch™ (TT) [link to website] and Healing Touch (HT) [link to website] are the two retained in my practice.

Our western medical wisdom, tends to only deal with what can be seen, tested and measured. In Eastern traditions, from immemorial times, the visible structure of our body has always been indivisibly associated with non-physical energy patterns which powerfully affect our state of health and being. These energies surrounding all living organisms make up the Vital Energy Field’ which animates, supports and nourishes the physical form.

In that perspective, when someone’s energy field is smooth and harmoniously patterned, that person enjoys good health, and conversely illness, fatigue or mental disorders cause obstructions or imbalances in the energy field.

Therapeutic Touch™

What is Therapeutic Touch™

Therapeutic Touch™ (TT), as energy modality, is a contemporary interpretation of several ancient healing practices.

Therapeutic Touch is a consciously directed process during which the practitioner uses the hands as a focus to facilitate the healing process. The intervention is administered with the intent to enable people to re-pattern their energy field toward wholeness and health, thereby enhancing the client’s own ability to heal”.
(The Therapeutic Touch Network – Ontario)

Sessions are usually individualized and do not exceed 20 minutes. The client remains fully clothed. The treatment can be administered in a sitting or lying position and is always followed by a period of rest.
Therapeutic Touch™ can be used on its own or as a complement to other therapies

Therapeutic Touch™ Overview

The use of hands for healing is not a great novelty. Since the dawn of history, people have used their hands for comforting, supporting, blessing, appeasing and reassuring. In more recent times, “the royal touch” (or healing with the laying of the hands) was a privilege of kings. King Olaf of Norway, for example, was declared a saint for performing “miracles”, using hand techniques. Most church traditions used the laying of the hands for centuries and incorporated some forms of hand touch in almost all their rituals.

The current form of TT was developed in the early 1970s by Dora Kunz, a clairvoyant and natural healer, and Dolores Krieger, Ph.D., R.N. (Professor Emerita of New York University). This modality is now used by people in all walks of life either in their work or with family members and friends. It is used by heath professionals, therapists, counselors, clergy and educators.
With a solid base of continuing research, TT is taught and practiced worldwide including in numerous colleges and universities in Canada and the United States. TT is accepted in the policies and procedures of an increasing number of health care institutions worldwide, and as intervention in a number of Ontario hospitals, hospices and clinics.

Healing Touch

What is Healing Touch?

Healing Touch (HT) [link to website], like Therapeutic Touch™, is an energy modality which uses human hands to attune the energy field, and works with the energy of the body to induce relaxation and promote self-healing. The difference is that Healing Touch is not one single technique but a multi-level program of energy-based therapies derived from the multi-cultured ancient art of hands-on healing.

Healing Touch includes over 30 different techniques tailored to more specific conditions, such as: neck or back problems, lymphatic drainage, mind clearing, and so on. The recipient lies fully clothed on a treatment table while the practitioner induces the re-patterning of the energy field with light touch and gentle hand motions around the body. This re-patterning is usually followed by a protocol specifically tailored to the condition to be treated. HT sessions usually take one hour and sometimes more.

History at a Glance

Healing Touch (HT) [link to website] was developed by Janet Mentgen RN, BSN who practiced energy- based health care since 1980 in Denver, CO. A Certificate Program was initially sponsored by the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) in 1990. Since then, HT gained world recognition and, in 1996, Healing Touch International Inc. became the certifying authority with AHNA endorsement. The HT certificate program has expanded worldwide and is currently taught throughout the USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New-Zealand, Europe, South-Africa and Latin America.

In Canada, the HT Program has been offered since 1990 and is endorsed by the Canadian Holistic Nurses Association. Courses are coordinated by Healing Touch Canada, Inc. [link to website] – a Certified Canadian Educational Institution devoted to the support of healing through the teaching of energy based techniques.
